What is Applied ESL?
They call me Teacher Dara
Hello students! My name is Dara K. Fulton and I am an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher. My students call me "Teacher Dara." I have been an ESL teacher for over 14 years. I have a Bachelor's degree in English, two Associates degrees, and both TESOL and TEFL certifications. I LOVE being a student as much as I LOVE being a teacher. I met many wonderful people, had great experiences, and wore many different hairstyles! The one thing that has remained the same is my passion for teaching English to adults. I am a creative teacher who loves to make people smile and feel comfortable. I love helping people and drinking coffee!
After having two hip surgeries, being laid off from work, and feeling unhappy, I decided to pursue my dream. I decided to start my own ESL tutoring company called Applied ESL. Applied ESL is an online English tutoring service with a creative approach. I help adult learners build their confidence while they improve their English speaking skills.
When students feel COMFORTABLE, they LEARN better. Many adult students feel they can't learn English. They don't feel comfortable speaking English, because they don't want to feel or look "stupid." Learning English is a process but it doesn't have to be uncomfortable. Applied ESL is a service that will help students to feel COMFORTABLE and CONFIDENT in speaking English. No student is "stupid."
My interest is helping the everyday man and woman who are looking to speak conversational English, using English for everyday situations such as introducing yourself, making a doctor's appointment, or buying your favorite cup of coffee. I teach beginner and intermediate levels of English. My lessons are focused on speaking, listening, and pronunciation.
I always tell my students, "Try your best," because when you TRY your best, you DO your best. I hope to be YOUR teacher :)
